DEMPSEY WINS SEASON OPENER

The May Two-Four weekend launched the beginning of the Can-Am Challenge Series, as well as the beginning of John Dempsey's attempt to bring home the championship at the end of this season. Dempsey missed the number one plate last year by a heartbreaking five points, a number which only serves to fuel Dempsey's determination to accomplish his goal of winning the championship for 2005.

Riding a 2002 Honda RS125, Dempsey started the weekend leading the field in practice sessions, wasting no time in establishing his intentions for the weekend. The only rider who would threaten his effort to be first to the checkered flag was an Italian ringer brought in by the series' sponsor.

The final race on Sunday would see the Italian in the lead for the first five laps, leaving Dempsey to resign himself to a second place finish, choosing to finish safely with points rather then risk himself and his motorcycle in trying to chase down the young rider, whose job is in fact, racing motorcycles.

However, Dempsey's meticulous attention to bike preparation proved to come out on top for this race, as the leader fell prey to mechanical problems, and had to watch as Dempsey lead the rest of the way unchallenged, straight to the checkered flag. When Dempsey stopped to pick up the flag for his victory lap, he treated fans to a spectacular burnout, marking his early bid for the series championship.

Dempsey would like to thank his sponsors: Pro 6 Cycle, Quality Custom Trucks, Bickle Leather Works, Sign-a-Rama, Meri-Mac Inc, Bain Machine Racing, as well as Infinity GP Racing for sponsoring the series.
