I'm getting into NASCAR and I've been following the chase and all, and I went on wikipedia and NASCAR's website to read how the points system works. I do not understand is how Tony Stewart was in front of Jeff Gordon and Jimmie Johnson for most of the race at Talladega, but in the update Chase for the points that was showing on the screen during the race showed Tony Stewart come in 1st place (Chase-wise) in the middle of the race and then pull back on the 4 th place in the Chase, and all this while still in front of 24 and 48, and 07 for the case. From my understanding, you get points for leading a lap, leading the most laps and end position. Can someone explain how it actually works and how Tony was bouncing all over the place in the points table, while he was constantly in front of them? Thanks.
